This video was my favorite of all the ones I have watched so far because it held a lot of decent information. This TED Talk was about the manipulation of a memory of a mouse and how this technology can help the world.
The initial video is focusing on the altering of memory. Two researchers at MIT are studying to try to find a way to alter memory. They use a special insertion into the brain which gives the part of the brain dealing with memory reactive to light. They then subsequently insert a tube into the mouses head which gives them the ability to project light to that area. They put a mouse into a small box and using the light to record the reactive part of the brain and lightly shock the mouse, scaring it into submission. They then put the mouse into a completely different box which is totally safe, and when they activate the light, the mouse remembers the shock from the other box and freezes even though this box is totally safe.
This matters to me since I am very interested in Bio Engineering and also very interested in MIT. It is amazing in how they were able to reactivate a memory in a mouse's mind, and theoretically it could also be used on humans. This means that you alter the memory of a human, or completely erase it. This could help the world with stress, suicide, and much much more. This matters to me since I hope to one day help a discovery which could changer the world.
This TED talk is by far the most interesting and I would immediately recommend this to my peers. The science and overall humor makes this a captivating and interesting talk. This by far is my favorite TED talk.
